Where Did You Study Dentistry?

After earning his Bachelor of Science from George Mason University and a Master of Science in Biomedical Science Policy and Advocacy from Georgetown University, Dr. Refahi began his dental education at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.

Following the completion of his DMD degree, Dr. Refahi remained at Tufts and obtained his Advanced Education in Periodontology Certificate along with a certification in IV sedation. Today, he is board-certified in periodontology and dental implant surgery.

Although Dr. Refahi’s primary focus is practice-based patient care, he still maintains a strong relationship with Tufts University as a faculty member in the Periodontology Department. Currently, he is working with a team to develop an individualized patient-based pre-clinical surgical simulation program for implant training, as well as evaluating the accuracy of implant placement using dynamic navigation technologies.

Dr. Refahi is an active member of the American Dental Association (ADA), American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), and the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS).

What Made You Want to Become a Periodontist?

Dr. Pooyan Refahi's passion for surgery and tackling complex cases led him to a fulfilling career in periodontics and implant dentistry. This specialty not only allows him to help patients preserve their natural teeth from chronic periodontal disease but also enables him to perform procedures ranging from single-tooth replacements to full-mouth reconstructions. Dr. Refahi finds immense satisfaction in transforming patients' oral health and improving their quality of life through comprehensive, tailored treatments.

Outside of the Office

Dr. Refahi enjoys traveling internationally and domestically with his wife and spending time with their cat, Mr. Pepper, and their King Charles Cavalier, Coco. He’s also a big fan of basketball and soccer.
